Chargers' Sarah Hackman named G-MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week (March 6-13)

The defending G-MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, Sarah Hackman is rounding into form with conference play fast approaching again.

Hackman went undefeated in a narrow 4-3 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic by the Hillsdale College women's tennis team on Sunday, and her play earned her recognition as the G-MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It's Hackman's first weekly honor of the season and her eighth in a decorated career with the Chargers.

The senior had a dominant showing in the two toughest spots on Sunday for Hillsdale. Hackman won 6-3 with partner Melanie Zampardo at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers, then rolled in straight sets at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Palm Beach Atlantic's Svea Crohn to earn two victories for the Chargers.

Hackman has been a dependable part of the lineup for Hillsdale throughout this season and her career. For the last two years especially, the senior has been taking on the toughest opponents and challenges on a match-to-match basis as Hillsdale's No. 1 player in both singles and doubles. Along with being named the 2022 G-MAC Player of the Year, Hackman has received All-G-MAC honors three times, including first-team honors twice. The only year Hackman failed to receive recognition from the G-MAC was 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic cut the spring season short and no awards were handed out.

The Chargers and Hackman will look to continue to excel as they open this weekend with conference matches against two G-MAC title contenders on the road, playing Findlay and Tiffin over the weekend in showdowns that could decide the title.
