Chargers Hannah Cimpeanu, Sarah Hackman earn All-G-MAC honors

Two of the Hillsdale College women's tennis team's most experienced players were honored once again by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Thursday.

Senior Hannah Cimpeanu was named to the All-G-MAC first team for the third time in her career, while junior Sarah Hackman earned second-team honors.

The pair have been solid all year for a Hillsdale team that finished the season 5-6 overall and fourth in the G-MAC, qualifying for its third straight G-MAC tournament.

Cimpeanu, Hillsdale's No. 1 singles player for the past three seasons, battled through an injury-plagued year to finish 5-4 overall at No. 1 singles and help the Chargers to wins over tough Midwest Regional foes Davenport and Purdue Northwest. Cimpeanu finishes her career at Hillsdale as one of only two players since the team restarted in 2011 to earn All-Conference honors three or more times.

Hackman, meanwhile, also had to overcome multiple injuries over the course of the season but finished the year 5-3 playing mostly at No. 2 singles. A first-team All-G-MAC player in 2019, Hackman managed to make the most of the year despite rarely being fully healthy throughout the season, and helped the Chargers once again qualify for the G-MAC tourney.

Both Cimpeanu and Hackman were also the team's top pairing in doubles, posting a 5-5 record for the season.

Although they're the lowest seed in the four team G-MAC tourney this weekend, Hillsdale played all three of the higher seeds tough in three matches earlier this season, and are capable of putting together a run that could allow them to defend their crown won back in 2019. The Chargers open against top-seeded Tiffin at 9:30 a.m. CT on Friday in Owensboro, Kentucky.
