Chargers kick off NCAA DII Championships with Mason's 30th-place finish in 1,000 freestyle

The Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team opened competition at the NCAA DII Championship meet on Wednesday morning in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sophomore Elise Mason took to the pool for the 1,000 yard freestyle, the first of three events for the distance swimmer at this year's Championships, finishing 30th in the nation with a time of 1:24.66. That improves upon both her time and place in the event at the 2022 NCAA DII Championships -- Mason took 33rd in the 1,000 freestyle as a freshman, in 10:26.34.

Mason is scheduled to compete in the 500 freestyle on Friday, March 10 and in her best event, the 1,650 freestyle on Saurday. Teammate Megan Clifford, competing in her first ever national meet, takes to the pool Friday morning in the 200 butterfly as well for the Chargers.
