Chargers' Megan Clifford named G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week (Oct. 24-31)

One of the top freshmen in the G-MAC last season, Megan Clifford is only getting stronger in her second year with the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving program.

The sophomore picked up the first G-MAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week award given out to a Charger this season on Monday afternoon, the G-MAC office announced, adding to an already impressive list of accolades for the young Charger.

Clifford earned the award based on an impressive showing in a dual meet against host Albion last Friday, where the sophomore won three events and set a pool record in the 200 yd butterfly (2:07.81). It's the second pool record of the season for Clifford, who also set the 100 butterfly record in her home pool in Hillsdale on a meet on Oct. 8.

Just a few weeks into her second season, and Clifford is closing in on multiple records held by former All-American and all-time great Hillsdale swimmer Linda Okonkowski. Clifford is second to Okonkowski all-time at Hillsdale in both the 100 and 200 butterfly, and has a shot to take both records if she can continue developing, as well as contend for All-American honors of her own.

The Chargers are off this weekend but will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 12 for a meet at Findlay, with Lewis also in attendance.
