Caroline Holmes wins second G-MAC Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week honor (Mar. 1 - 7)

The Hillsdale women's swimming team expected freshman Caroline Holmes to make a splash in her first season competing collegiately.

It's safe to say the Nashport, Ohio native has lived up to expectations.

Holmes earned her second Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week award of the season, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon, after a huge weekend in the pool at the DePauw Invite this past weekend.

Holmes set three DePauw pool records over the weekend and won five events, winning the 200m freestyle (1:54.21), the 200m backstroke (2:04.67), the 100m backstroke (58.38) in record fashion and also taking first in the 200m individual medley (2:10.09) and swimming a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:34.60).

Those times put Holmes in some rare company early in her career at Hillsdale. Her 200 freestyle time on Saturday is the fifth-fastest ever swum by a Hillsdale women's athlete, as is her 200 IM time. Her 100 backstroke time is fourth best in program history and her 200 backstroke is the third-fastest time among Hillsdale swimmers.

Holmes will look to continue an excellent season at the G-MAC/MEC Championships at the end of the month, starting on March 30 and running through April 2 in Canton, Ohio, for the Chargers' next meet. Hillsdale is the defending meet champion and will look to defend its conference crown.
