Charger women's swim team improves to 7-0 with 163-117 win at Findlay

On Saturday afternoon, the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team traveled to Great Midwest Athletic Conference rival University of Findlay for a 16-event meet.

Hillsdale won 163-117 after spotting the Oilers 18 points for diving, thanks to 1-2-3 finishes in three events: the 1000 meter freestyle, the 500 freestyke, and 200 IM.

Sophomore Leah Tunney won the 1000 by 41 seconds (10:47.55), junior Maddie Breay finished second (11:28.14), and sophomore Anika Fassett third (11:31.64). Freshman Amy Mills had the second fastest time (11:18.74) but was exhibition for that event.

Sophomore Madison Pyhel placed first in the 500 (5:21.67), sophomore Sarah Clark was second (5:23.67), and junior Anna Clark third (5:32.19).

Freshmen dominated in the 200 IM by placing first, second, and third. Freshman Cecilia Guadalupi finished first in the 200 IM (2:12.25), freshman Caroline Holmes was second (2:16.47), and freshman Amy Mills third (2:18.25)

Freshman Caroline Holmes won the 200 freestyle (1:59.42) and was the only swimmer under 2 minutes. Pyhel finished third (2:02.22).

Tunney had her second individual win of the day in the 100 backstroke (1:00.46), just out-touching Holmes who finished second (1:00.79).

Guadalupi had her second individual win of the day in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.07), just out-touching Findlay by .06. Junior Taylor Boyle finished in a very close third (1:10.31). All top three finishers were within .3 seconds of each other.

Sophomore Marie Taylor had a strong 50 freestyle win (24.73) and was the only swimmer to go under 25 seconds.

Senior Katherine Heeres had a strong 100 freestyle win (55.33) and Breay finished third (58.22).

The 200 freestyle A-relay of Tunney, Rao, Heeres, and Taylor placed first (1:40.87). The 200 medley B-relay of Holmes, Boyle, Pyhel, and Henderson finished second (1:52.84).

In the 50 butterfly, senior Emma Rao placed second (27.62), and Fassett was third (27.76). All top three finishers were within .33 seconds.

In the 50 backstroke, Heeres placed second (28.50), and Tunney was a close third (28.65).

In the 50 breaststroke Boyle finished second (31.75).

In the 100 butterfly Pyhel finished second (1:00.59) and A. Clark was third (1:01.41).

Hillsdale travels to South Euclid, Ohio on Friday, Feb. 19 for a tri-meet against host Notre Dame College (OH) and Ursuline next.
