Leah Tunney wins G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week Award (Feb. 1-7)

The 2019-20 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in women's swimming and diving is still going strong in the 2020-21 season.

Hillsdale College's Leah Tunney was named the G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for Feb. 1-7, the G-MAC conference office announced on Tuesday. It's the third award of Tunney's career, and her first in the 2020-21 season.

Tunney was excellent for the Chargers in a big dual meet victory over Ashland, 125-101, on Saturday that helped Hillsdale improve to 6-0 on the season. The sophomore from Mequon, Wisconsin won both the 200 freestyle (1:58.03) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.05) for the Chargers, and also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:52.03) with Katherine Heeres, Emma Rao and Taylor Boyle.

She's the third Hillsdale swimmer to earn Athlete of the Week honors from the G-MAC this season, joining teammates Cecilia Guadalupi and Caroline Holmes in receiving the award. Tunney also holds the program's record in the 1000 meter freestyle, set last season.

Hillsdale is in action again this Saturday, traveling to Canton, Ohio to swim against host Malone and Notre Dame College (OH) in a tri-meet.
