Caroline Holmes earns G-MAC Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week honor (Jan. 24-31)

The freshman class for the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team is just three meets into its collegiate career, but it's already making waves in competition.

On Tuesday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference office announced that Charger freshman Caroline Holmes had earned the conference's Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week award for Jan. 24-31.

Holmes is the second Charger freshman to win the award in the three weeks it's been given out, joining teammate Cecilia Guadalupi in receiving the honor.

Holmes had a banner day for the Chargers in a 148-70 dual meet victory over host Olivet College on Saturday, winning the 100 meter freestyle in 55.79 and the 500 freestyle in 5:24.06, while also swimming a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:46.84) and posting the fastest relay split at the meet.

The freshman from Nashport, Ohio is off to a strong start to her Charger career. Holmes was a part of two winning relays at the previous weekend's Bethel University Invite, and she also won the 200 freestyle at Hillsdale's season-opening home meet against Indiana Wesleyan on Jan. 16.

Holmes and the Chargers will compete again this Saturday, traveling to Ashland for a dual meet at 1 p.m. for their next action.
