Charger women's swim tops four-team invite hosted by Bethel University

Saturday afternoon the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team traveled to Elkhart, Indiana, for a quad meet against Bethel University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Anderson University. The Chargers won against all teams: 146-114 over Indiana Wesleyan, 176-79 over Bethel University, and 187-64 Anderson University.

The Chargers finished 1-2-3 in the 200 backstroke. Sophomore Leah Tunney took first (2:09.58), senior Katherine Heeres second (2:11.79), and freshman Caroline Holmes third (2:12.45). Tunney also won the 100 backstroke (59.61), and Holmes finished third (1:01.41).

Sophomore Marie Taylor won two individual events: the 50 freestyle (24.66), and the 100 freestyle by two seconds (54.52).

Sophomore Madison Pyhel won the 200 butterfly by almost 5 seconds (2:12.05), and freshman Phoebe Johnston finished fourth (2:24.91).

Freshman Cecilia Guadalupi won the 200 breaststroke (2:29.37) and junior Maddie Breay finished fourth (2:37.59).

Senior Katherine Heeres won the 200 freestyle (2:00.80).

The 200 medley A-relay of Holmes, Guadalupi, Pyhel, and Taylor won (4:04.52), and the B-relay of Tunney, Boyle, Fassett, and Heeres took second (4:06.23). The 400 freestyle A-relay of Guadalupi, Heeres, Tunney, and Holmes finished first by 6 second (3:39.82).

Freshman Sarah Pataniczek swam the 1,650 freestyle for the first time ever and finished second (18:42.34). Junior Taylor Boyle took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.16). Sophomore Madison Pyhel finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:20.58)

Guadalupi finished third in the 50 freestyle (25.48). The Chargers also went 3-4-5 in the 100 butterfly. Johnston finished third (1:03.34), junior Stefanie Walker fourth (1:04.51), and Pataniczek fifth (1:05.21).

Hillsdale is in action again next Saturday, traveling to Olivet College for a dual meet against the Comets.
