Hillsdale's Cecilia Guadalupi wins first G-MAC women's swimming Athlete of the Week (Jan. 11-17)

One meet into her freshman season, and Hillsdale College women's swimmer Cecilia Guadalupi is already making waves.

On Tuesday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference office announced that Guadalupi had earned the G-MAC women's swimming and diving Athlete of the Week Award for her performance in the Chargers' season-opening 132-70 win over Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.

Guadalupi won three events for the Chargers in Saturday's meet, taking first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.07), the 200 individual medley (2:14.17) and swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay (1:53.79). Her three wins were part of eight event victories in the meet for Hillsdale, which was swimming in what likely will be its only home meet of the season.

Expectations were high for Guadalupi entering her first season. Coming to Hillsdale from Cony High School in Augusta, Maine, Guadalupi graduated from Cony as one of the most decorated female swimmers in Maine high school history. At Cony, Guadalupi was twice named the state's female swimmer of the year in Class A, and won 16 state titles across her four-year career while never losing a race at the Maine Class A women's swimming state finals.

Guadalupi and the Chargers are in action again this weekend, traveling to Bethel University for a four-team invitational on Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
