Charger women's swim team continues strong start at third virtual meet

On wednesday evening, the Charger swim team competed in their third virtual meet. The meet is part of the CSCAA Fall Virtual Cup. Times from other competing teams are compared and scored at the end of each week.

The Charger swimmers put up more impressive times in every event. In the 400 freestyle, the A-Relay team of Marie Taylor, Katherine Heeres, Cecilia Guadalupi, and Caroline Holmes took first (3:42.81), and the B-relay team of Leah Tunney, Stefanie Walker, Emma Rao, and Madison Pyhel was second (3:52.54).

Next, freshman Amy Mills took first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:05.08), and sophomore Anna Clark was a close second (11:08.85). Freshman Sarah Pataniczek swam the 1,000 for the first time and finished third (11:17.15).

The sophomore class took over the 100 freestyle with Marie Taylor taking a strong first place (53.37), sophomore Leah Tunney taking second (55.62) and sophomore Anika Fassett finishing third (57.65).

The 200 butterfly was a close race between junior Anna Clark taking first (2:15.86), and sophomore Madison Pyhel second (2:15.92).

Three Chargers were under 2:15 in the 100 backstroke. Tunney took first (2:08.88), freshman Caroline Holmes second (2:10.95), and senior Katherine Heeres third (2:14.99).

Freshman Cecilia Guadalupi won the 200 breaststroke by 10 seconds (2:28.02), junior Maddie Breay took second (2:38.71), and junior Taylor Boyle third (2:41.28).

The 100 IM was a strong race for the chargers with four swimmers being at 1:05 or under. Guadalupi took another first (1:00.92), Holmes took second (1:02.71), Taylor third (1:04.04), and Heeres fourth (1:05.27).

The next time Hillsdale College hits the pool for competition, it'll be face-to-face against opposing teams for the first time this season. The Chargers are traveling to the University of Findlay on Saturday, November 7 for a tri-meet with the host Oilers and Lewis University.
