Leah Tunney Wins Her Second G-MAC Athlete of the Week Honor

Last weekend's swimming tri-meet was the final tune up for the Hillsdale College Chargers before next month's conference championships. But freshman Leah Tunney used it as just another occasion to stand out during a terrific regular season for her and her team.

For the second time this season, Tunney was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

While competing against Case Western and Ohio Northern, Tunney produced a good number of points for Hillsdale, taking two first places and two second places. She won the 1000 free and 200 back with times of 10:36.74 and 2:06.97 respectively. She took second in the 100 back, losing out on first by less than a second with a time of 1:00.58. In her final event of the meet, she completed the anchor leg of the 200 free relay, leading a group that finished the race in 1:40.05. Her split time was 24.85 seconds in that relay.

Tunney and teammate Marie Taylor have combined on three G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors for the Chargers this year. They are two of 31 different G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors won by Hillsdale College athletes this year, distributed among 20 different Chargers.
