It hasn't taken long for Charger women's swimming freshman Leah Tunney to make a splash with her new team.
Still brand-new to the college swimming scene, Tunney made a big impact in Hillsdale's tri-meet with Calvin and Grand Valley State last weekend, and as a result, was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Tunney, a native of Mequon, Wisconsin, becomes the 15th different Hillsdale College athlete and second freshman to win a conference weekly award this year. A total of 19 G-MAC player of the week honors have been bestowed upon Hillsdale College athletes through seven full weeks of competition this school year.
In Saturday's tri-meet, Tunney took three second places and was already within striking range of NCAA B-cut times in her events. Her 200 IM time was 2:13.53. Her 100 backstroke time was 59.3 and her 1000 free time was 10:33.04.
