The Hillsdale College women's basketball team made its run, but came up just short in an 87-81 loss to Ursuline College Thursday night in the first game of the new decade for both teams.

The loss drops Hillsdale to 4-9 on the season. The Chargers are back home Saturday afternoon hosting Lake Erie College.

The Arrows used their quickness effectively through much of the first part of the game, leading by as many as 14 at one point. But a three-point play by sophomore Grace Touchette tied the game at 77 apiece with 3:21 to go in the fourth quarter.

Ursuline responded impressively, scoring the next five consecutive points to open up a more comfortable 82-77 lead with less than two minutes to play. The Arrows held the Chargers off down the stretch, not allowing Hillsdale to knot the game up again.

The loss spoiled some excellent games by the Chargers as the calendar turned to 2020. Junior guard Jaycie Burger set a new career-high in scoring with 19 points, making all six of her free throws and making three 3-point field goals. She was confident and aggressive with the ball throughout the game.

Senior Julia Wacker also set a new career-high with 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds and a pair of steals. After missing the team's previous home game due to injury, Wacker was engaged and quick on the court, scoring 8 points in the first quarter, getting off to an excellent start.

Senior Sydney Anderson finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists, also making three 3-point baskets. Freshman Sydney Mills came off the bench to contribute 9 points, 7 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in a strong effort. Freshman Courtney Krol played her first home game as a member of the Chargers and had 7 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
