A long few weeks on the road came to an end in frustrating fashion for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon.

Playing its sixth consecutive game on the road, spanning nearly a full month, the Chargers dropped an 84-78 decision to Ohio Valley University in West Virginia. Hillsdale is now 0-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and 2-7 overall.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter, and while the Chargers were able to battle back and grab the lead, they couldn't sustain that momentum. A 22-13 scoring edge in the third quarter helped OVU regain the lead, and the teams played to a fourth-quarter draw, not quite enough for Hillsdale to scratch out its first conference win of the season.

OVU shot 52 percent from the floor and held Hillsdale to 4-for-18 shooting as a team in that pivotal third quarter. The Scots also had a 30-27 edge on the boards and had three fewer turnovers.

Junior guard Jaycie Burger did her part on offense, scoring a season-high 18 points, making three 3-point field goals. Freshman Courtney Krol turned in her second consecutive good offensive game with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Guards Sydney Anderson and Lauren Daffenberg each scored 14 points, Anderson grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds.
