Some late clutch plays on defense and offense lifted the Alderson Broaddus University women's basketball team to a 73-71 win over Hillsdale College Thursday night in Philippi, West Virginia.

The loss, coming in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener, makes Hillsdale 2-6 and 0-1 on the season.

The Battlers forced a pair of turnovers in the final 30 seconds, and cashed in with points on both, erasing a late 71-70 Charger lead. Hillsdale used a 15-7 run to rally back from a seven-point deficit to take a one-point lead late in the ballgame, but Alderson Broaddus rebounded to come away with the close victory.

The loss came despite the Chargers putting together an improved offensive game. They shot 49 percent from the floor, drained nine 3-point baskets and hit 82 percent of their free throws.

Sophomore guard Lauren Daffenberg led Hillsdale with 21 points, going 6-for-11 from 3-point territory, one of her best shooting games from beyond the arc this year. Freshman Courtney Krol poured in a career-high 16 points in 38 minutes, her best game in a Charger uniform.

Freshman Sydney Mills came off the bench to get 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 13 minutes, and senior Sydney Anderson added 9 points, 4 boards and 3 assists.
