Chargers Break Into the Win Column

After playing four very tough opponents, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team enjoyed a victory for the first time in 2018-19.

Leading from start to finish, Hillsdale defeated Puerto Roci-Mayaguez 71-52 in the second day of competition at the Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. The team is now 1-4 on the season.

Hillsdale held a scoring edge of at least five points in three of the four quarters, and got excellent offensive balance in achieving the victory. The Chargers held PR-M to 33 percent shooting from the field and 2-for-15 from 3-point land.

Senior forward Brittany Gray broke out with a season-high 19 points, connecting on five 3-point baskets in the win. She was one of three starters to crack double figures.

Senior forward Makenna Ott helped get the team off to a good start with 11 of her 13 points in the first half. She shot 6-for-10 from the field and had 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Sophomore guard Jaycie Burger scored a season-high 11 points, going 3-for-4 from 3-point territory. She also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and continues to improve in ways other than just outside shooting. 

Hillsdale had 19 assists on 28 made baskets in the win.

The Chargers open conference play next week taking on Cedarville and Tiffin on the road.
