Every player on the Charger women's basketball roster scored in Thursday night's 79-61 win over Ohio Valley University Thursday night in Vienna, West Virginia.
The win makes Hillsdale 10-7 overall and 8-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. This win was an ideal way to go into the week-long break the team has coming up. Each of the Chargers' next two games are at home, starting with a matchup against Kentucky Wesleyan Jan. 25.
Hillsdale was in control of this game from the start, leading by nine points after one quarter, 23 at halftime and 33 at the end of the third quarter. The Chargers did an excellent job of spreading the ball around to its entire lineup on the court at any given time, and that offensive balance was a key to the team pulling away early.
Senior center Allie Dittmer was hot early and carried the team to a big first-half lead. She made each of her first six shots from the floor, and finished 9-for-12 from the field for a game-high 20 points. Dittmer was on her game, hitting jumpers as well as her signature layups off nice passes from her teammates.
Some of those passes came from freshman guard Jaycie Burger, who played an excellent game. She scored 6 points, and set new career-highs in rebounds (6) and assists (5) in the victory. She became the first Charger freshman to tallie at least 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the same game since Jenn Carlson did it against Saginaw Valley State back on December 6, 2003.
Ohio Valley tightened up the game cosmetically by outscoring the Charger reserves 27-12 in the fourth quarter.
Senior Maddy Reed had 12 points and 4 rebounds while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Allie Dewire and Makenna Ott each had 8 points while senior Jessica De Gree came off the bench to score 7 points for Hillsdale.
