The Chargers weren't going to let this one slip away.
In a game that saw neither team lead by more than three points in the second half, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team won a squeaker, 61-58, over Lake Superior State University Saturday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie.
Hillsdale is now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in GLIAC play. The Chargers will play their first home regular season game next Saturday against Michigan Tech.
Juniors Brooke Borowski (pictured) and Megan Fogt made all four of their free throws in the game's final 22 seconds to give Hillsdale just enough to secure the win. The Lakers had the ball last, but a missed 3-point field goal was rebounded by sophomore Sarah Theut, clinching the game for the visitors.
Offense was not easy to come by for either team in this game, as the Chargers shot just 31 percent from the field (20-for-64). But the Chargers grabbed a season-high 53 rebounds, holding a huge edge in that category (plus-18) that was a significant reason for the win.
Sophomore guard Ashlyn Landherr set a new career-high in scoring with 15 points, leading the team in points for the first time in her career. She made all six of her free throws, and added four assists and two rebounds in 35 steady minutes on the floor.
Fogt had her third 20-rebound game of the season, piling up 13 points, 20 rebounds and a career-high six assists.
Senior Angela Bisaro tied a career-high with nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Madison Berry had seven points and two steals in her first career start.
