Early Deficit Costs Chargers

Box Score

February 9, 2013 - Over the final 30 minutes of Saturday's women's basketball game between Hillsdale College and Ohio Dominican University, the Chargers outscored the host Panthers by 12 points. Certainly an outcome most coaches would be pleased with. But it was the first 10 minutes of the game that were costly for Hillsdale.

Ohio Dominican jumped out to a 20-0 lead and forced Hillsdale to miss its first 13 shots in a 67-59 decision in Columbus Saturday afternoon. The Chargers are 8-12 overall and 5-12 in the GLIAC, and are playing back at home next week, against Lake Erie College Thursday and #1-ranked Ashland Saturday.

The Chargers clawed back, eventually cutting the lead to as low as one point, 53-52, with 5:29 left to play. Although that would appear to be plenty of time to decide a game, the exhausted Chargers could score just seven more points the rest of the way. ODU made four of its next five shots to shake loose of Hillsdale.

Hillsdale shot 51 percent from the floor in the second half, compared to 18 in the first half. The two teams combined for just five 3-point field goals made.

Sophomore Megan Fogt had one of her most productive games of this breakout season, racking up 23 points and 16 rebounds, while shooting 71 percent from the field (10-for-14). Her 16 boards were her second-most in a game in her career, and most in a conference game this season. She pulled down 31 rebounds in two games this weekend.

Junior forward Angela Bisaro had 10 points, five rebounds and a team-high three assists for the Chargers. Sophomore Brooke Borowski came off the bench to pop in 10.
