Chargers Earn Multiple Medals at USA Shooting National Championships

The USA Shooting National Championship took place at Hillsdale College's own John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center from May 18-22 for Skeet and 24-28 for Trap. This event not only selected teams and national champions, but was also the first part of the US Olympic Trials. Eight Chargers, current and incoming, competed in the shoot. The grueling event consisted of 250 targets shot over the course of four days.

Hillsdale repeatedly proves that it has the best group of collegiate International Skeet shooters in the country and this event was no exception. Freshman Jordan Sapp was the team's top finisher ending up as the Junior Men's silver medalist with a score of 240. Sophomore Josh Corbin was next with 235 and the gold collegiate men's medal, and the 2nd collegiate men's award went to sophomore Kyle Fleck. Breaking 231 targets, incoming freshman Madeline Corbin was awarded the silver medal in the Junior Women category. All four of these current and future Chargers are able to represent the US in World Cup and World Championship events this summer.

International Trap (Bunker) was another successful event for the Chargers. Senior Ida Brown shot the highest score of any Hillsdale athlete, 211/250, enough to secure second place among collegiate women, and, because of cumulative performance, that score also earned her a spot on the US National Team. Freshman Sophia Bultema broke 175 targets and was awarded second place in her category of Para-Trap. Ava Downs, incoming freshman at Hillsdale, hit 209 targets and finished third Junior Women. She was chosen as a representative of the US on the Junior World Team and will be able to travel to South Korea for the Junior World Championship.
