Five Chargers competitors medal in USA Shooting Selection Match in Tucson

Five Chargers competitors medal in USA Shooting Selection Match in Tucson

Five members of the Hillsdale College Shotgun Team recently competed at the USA Shooting selection match in Tucson, Arizona February 3 – 8, 2023, all coming away with medal-worthy performances in a strong showing.

The five Chargers earning medals in the five day event were:

Joshua Corbin - Collegiate Men's Silver

Kyle Fleck - Collegiate Men's Bronze

Jordan Sapp - Junior Men's Silver

Ida Brown - Collegiate Women's Gold

Sophia Bultema - Para Trap Women's Gold

The junior men's skeet team at Hillsdale College have been a dominant force within recent USA Shooting competitions in the discipline. The Tucson selection was a great warmup for the trio before competing in the Junior Selection match coming up in Kerrville, Texas in March. Joshua Corbin, Jordan Sapp, and Kyle Fleck have an amazing opportunity to make the Junior World Cup and World Championship team in Kerrville if they can continue to build off of this performance.

In women's action, Ida Brown shot a very consistent match in Tucson where she made the Open Women's Final and is sitting in a great position to make the Open World Championship Team. That team will be decided here in Hillsdale at the Halter Center in May.

Sophia Bultema also shot a great match and had a few personal best moments throughout the competition. She is a member of the Para Trap team and has her sights set on making USA Shooting's Paralympic Trap Team for the 2024 Paralympic games.

Many of Hillsdale's athletes competing this weekend already have international experience competing for Team USA. Brown won a silver medal during the most recent Shotgun World Cup in in Nicosia, Cyprus, Sapp took home a gold medal at the ISSF World Championships in Osijek, Croatia, and Joshua Corbin also competed in a ISSF World Cup event in Rabat, Morocco as well. All five athletes will continue to build their credentials for qualifying for international competition, while also seeking to help the Chargers excel at the ACUI National Championships in March in collegiate competition as well.
