Charger Shotgun team kicks off 2022-23 season at home Charger Classic

Hillsdale College and their Shotgun Team hosted the Charger Classic, an NSCA-registered sporting clays competition, at the college's own Halter Shooting Sports Education Center on August 20th. The event offered a 100-target Sporting Clays event, a 100-target Super Sporting event, and a 50-target 5-Stand event.

In the sporting clays event, sophomore Gavin Drill broke 94/100, earning him honors both as High Overall and the high junior. Freshman Jordan Sapp (91) finished as the high B Class competitor and second place junior. Junior Jessica Strasser and sophomore Josh Corbin both shot 90, tying for 3rd high junior. Corbin finished as first in A Class and Strasser was both second in B Class and the high lady competitor. Senior Ida Brown's 88 earned her honors as A2 and second place lady. Senior Woodrow Glazer, junior Jackson Sokel, and sophomore Kyle Fleck all broke 86 targets. Glazer was third in A class while Sokel and Fleck tied for third in B. With a score of 81/100, freshman Davis Hay finished C3.

Glazer finished as High Overall in Super Sporting, breaking 89/100. Corbin's 88 earned him high junior and first in A Class. Fleck and Drill both shot 87, finishing as B1 and C1 respectively and tying for second high junior. Sapp's score of 84 earned B2 honors while Hay's 82 earned C2. Junior Will Stuart broke 79 targets, enough for third place in B Class. Brown and Strasser both shot scores of 77, tying them for the high lady and earning Brown third place in A Class.

In 5-Stand, Sapp broke a perfect 50-straight, tying for the highest score of the event and the highest junior score.

The Chargers next look forward to the first annual Michigan College State Shoot. The event will be hosted at the Halter Center on October 1st and include Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.
