Weidinger repeats as G-MAC Softball Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 22-28)

Senior Dana Weidinger entered the 2021 season as one of the most accomplished pitchers in Hillsdale College softball history.

Everything she's done since the season started has only bolstered that resume.

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference office announced on Tuesday that Weidinger has been named the conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week and the third time in her career.

Weidinger earned the repeat honor with a stellar weekend down in West Virginia in the Glenville State Softball Invitational, serving as the pitcher of record in all three Charger wins, two as the starter and once in a relief appearance.

All told, the fifth-year senior pitched 17 innings, conceding just seven hits and zero earned runs in three games, and striking out 20 batters with just three walks in 7-0 wins over host Glenville St. and Charleston, and a 4-3 extra-inning win over West Virginia St.

For the season, Weidinger is now 6-2 in eight appearances for the Chargers, with four complete games, a 1.60 ERA, and 34 strikeouts to 10 walks.

She's also rapidly climbing the career leaderboard in several program record categories for pitchers. Last weekend, she moved past Denise Nicker ('93) and Laura Homan ('12) into second-place on the career innings pitched list (460.1), and within striking distance of record-holder Sarah DeAngelo ('01)'s total of 538.1.

Weidinger also passed Homan and JoDee Guss ('96) to move into seventh all-time in career strikeouts (269) and is also fifth in career wins (38).

Weidinger and the Chargers are off until March 12, when the team embarks on a Southern road trip over spring break with games in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida over the course of a week.
