Cardinals Trip Up Chargers

Game 1 box score: SVSU 12, Hillsdale 3

Game 2 box score: SVSU 8, Hillsdale 6

The Charger softball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader on a windy Friday afternoon at home to Saginaw Valley State University, 12-3 and 8-6. The losses leave Hillsdale at 15-18 on the season.

SVSU scored four in the sixth and five in the seventh innings of what had been a tight game in the opener. Junior Sam Catron had the lone multi-hit game in the opener for Hillsdale, going 2-for-3. Emma Johnson had a hit and a run batted in, while Amanda Marra picked up a hit and scored a run.

In game two, Hillsdale made a furious comeback late in the game, picking up four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run, bases-loaded single by freshman Kasidy Carson. The Cardinals led 7-1 entering the frame, but a highly spirited Charger team refused to quit and threatened to take the lead right up until the final batter of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Sarah Wojcik hit her first career home run, a shot off the top of the scoreboard as part of a three-hit day. Natalie Walters, Morgan Cox and Renee Bielawa each had a hit and a run batted in for the Chargers.
