Hillsdale Loses Pair of 1-Run Games

Game 1 box score: Drury 4, Hillsdale 3

Game 2 box score: Concord 3, Hillsdale 2

One-run games were not kind to the Hillsdale College softball team Saturday afternoon in Florida.

The Chargers lost a pair of close games, 4-3 to Drury in eight innings, and 3-2 to Concord.

In the first game of the day, Hillsdale took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Madison Stoner's RBI single scored Katie Kish from third base. The international tiebreaker rule was put into effect in the eighth inning, with Kish getting placed on second to open the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Panthers took advantage of the tiebreaker rule, scoring its placed runner on a double to tie the game, with the winning run coming three batters later.

Sophomore Emma Johnson had a single and a run batted in while Kish had a hit and a run scored. Amanda Marra and Kasidy Carson also picked up hits in the first game.

In game two, Hillsdale made a seventh-inning comeback, scoring twice to tighten what was a 3-0 deficit, but it wasn't able to move across any more runs.

Marra went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Kish had a hit anda  run scored for the second game in a row. Natalie Stepanenko helped get the seventh-inning rally going with a pinch hit, and she later scored.
