The Charger softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Davis & Elkins College on a cloudy Friday afternoon, winning 2-0 and 7-2 to climb back above .500 both overall and in the conference.

Hillsdale used a one-hit shutout by freshman pitcher Erin Hunt to secure a 2-0 win in the opener. Hunt won again in game two, with Natalie Walters picking up a save in a 7-2 victory in the nightcap. Hillsdale is now 13-11 overall and 7-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Hunt threw a one-hitter for the second consecutive start, not allowing a base hit by the Senators until the fourth inning of game one. She recorded eight strikeouts while working out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning to help Hillsdale hang on.

Junior Katie Kish had a two-run single for Hillsdale's only offense of the game. Her bases-loaded shot scored Kelsey Gockman and a hustling Victoria Addis to account for Hillsdale's runs. Addis in particular made a heads-up play, hustling all the way around from second base to score on a hit that didn't leave the infield.

The Hillsdale bats got cooking late in game two, when it had a four-run rally to open up what had been a 3-2 lead. Freshman Emma Johnson provided a two-run single with the bases loaded to help increase the Charger lead at a critical point in the game.

Hunt once again got the win on the mound, going four innings with four strikeouts. Freshman Natalie Walters picked up the save, logging three innings with no runs allowed and one strikeout.

At the plate, Kish was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI while Gockman drove in a run and stole home, adding a double to a terrific offensive game. Walters was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
