Game 2 box score: Kentucky Wesleyan 9, Hillsdale 1

Freshman pitcher Erin Hunt won for the second time in two Great Midwest Athletic Conference outings in the first game of Sunday's softball doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Hunt struck out eight batters and went the distance in a 3-2 Hillsdale win over the Panthers in the opener. KWC struck back to post a 9-1 win in the nightcap. After the weekend split, Hillsdale is 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the G-MAC.

The Chargers took a 3-0 lead with a combination of power and speed in the first game. Amanda Marra scored on a perfectly executed double steal with Emma Johnson to put the Chargers up 1-0 in the first inning.

Two innings later, Katie Kish, the team's leading hitter, turned a one-out single into a run when she came around to score on a single by sophomore Sam Catron

Catron was responsible for what turned out to be the game-winning run when she doubled home Kish in the fifth inning, putting Hillsdale up 3-0. Kentucky Wesleyan got two back on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, but Hunt slammed the door in the seventh, striking out one and forcing two harmless pop fly outs.

Kish was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in game one while Catron was 2-for-4. Junior Jessica Taylor has been swinging a heavy bat to start off the season, and was 2-for-3 in the opener.

Taylor doubled home Kish to put Hillsdale up 1-0 to start game two, but the Panther bats came alive, scoring three times in the first and second innings to take a big early lead.

Kish, batting .509 on the season, was 2-for-3 with a run scored in game two.
