Charger Softball Runs Win Streak to 4 With Tuesday Wins

After a day off for fun in Florida, the Hillsdale College softball team got back to work in a big way Tuesday afternoon, picking up a pair of victories to improve to 4-2 on the season.

In Tuesday's first game, freshman Erin Hunt pitched her first complete game shutout in a 7-0 win over Nyack. In the second game, five different players drove in runs in a 7-2 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead.

Hunt was dominant in the opener, striking out 13 batters while allowing just 2 hits in her first collegiate shutout. 

Junior Amanda Marra had a huge game in the opener, hitting two doubles while going 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in. Freshman Emma Johnson had a terrific day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Freshman Madison Stoner had a double and went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while sophomore Julia Huebner and junior Jessica Taylor also had doubles. Sophomore Erin Gordon drove in 2 runs for the Chargers.

Junior Carly Gouge came off the bench to hit a run-scoring double for Hillsdale in the second game. Sophomore Sydney San Juan and junior Kate Kish each racked up three singles in the win and Haley Lawrence went 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in.

Hillsdale scored at least once in each of the final six innings against the Falcons.

Sophomore pitcher Dana Weidinger recorded the victory, going five innings with three strikeouts and two earned runs allowed. Freshman Natalie Walters earned her first collegiate save, tossing two scoreless frames for Hillsdale.
