Charger men kick off 2022 campaign with competition at Olivet College Comet Open

The Hillsdale College men's cross country team kicked off the 2022 season on Thursday, with part of its squad headed to Charlotte, Michigan to compete in the Olivet College Comet Open hosted at Broadway Acres Golf Club.

Sophomore Donnie McArdle led the Chargers with a top 10 finish, running the 5K course in 16:25.20 to finish 10th overall. Teammate Isaac Waffle, who went to school at Olivet High School near the meet course, was close behind, taking 11th in 16:29.50, and junior Sean Hoeft placed 15th in 16:44.40.

Two freshmen made their collegiate debuts for the Chargers on Thursday, as Seth Jankowski finished 23rd in his first college race in 17:21.90, and fellow freshman Mark Masaka finished 28th in 17:54.50. Junior Dylan Palmer took 24th as well for Hillsdale, in 17:30.40.

Hillsdale travels to Grand Rapids, Michigan next Saturday, September 10 for the Calvin Cross County Invitational, where the entire squad will compete for the first time in 2022 against competition from around the Midwest.
