After a three week layoff, the Hillsdale College men's and women's cross country teams get back on the course on Friday, traveling to the Tiffelberg Invitational hosted by Tiffin University at Seneca Hills Golf Club.

The meet begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be held on the same course as the G-MAC Championship meet on Oct. 24, making this race an interesting preview of what the end-of-season title race might look like three weeks from now.

That's especially true with many G-MAC programs in attendance on Friday, including some of Hillsdale's toughest competition for the conference title.

In its only meet so far this season, the home Charger Invite on Sept. 12, the Hillsdale women's cross country team made a strong statement, beating the other top finishers from the 2019 G-MAC Championships, Cedarville University, Walsh University and Malone University, by 16 or more points to take the title.

In that 6K race, the defending G-MAC champion Chargers put three runners in the top 10, led by senior Maryssa Depies (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer) in third place (22:22). Junior Sophia Maeda (Mead, CO/Mead) finished fifth (22:53) and senior Christina Sawyer (Tecumseh, MI/Tecumseh) took seventh (23:04) as well for the Chargers.

On the men's side, the Chargers finished third behind Walsh University and Malone University in the 8K race at their home Charger Invite on Sept. 12, led by junior Adam Wier (Versailles, KY/Lexington Christian Academy) in eighth place (26:49).

The Chargers, who took runner-up honors in the 2019 G-MAC Championships, also had senior Mark Miller (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) take 15th (27:25) and sophomore Mark Sprague (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) take 17th (27:29).

Both teams have been training hard in the past three weeks and will be looking to show their progress at the midway point in each team's season.

This is Hillsdale's second-straight year of competing in the Tiffelberg Invite. Last year, the Charger women won the event title, while the men took third overall behind Heidelberg and Tiffin.
