Joseph Humes Named G-MAC Athlete of the Week

There's nothing quite like running your first race of a new year as the leader and winner. And Tuesday afternoon, Joseph Humes won once again.

Humes, a junior on the Charger men's cross country tea, was named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

In making his first appearance of 2018 at the Jeff Drenth Memorial, Humes outran Division I runners from multiple institutions, winning the race in 15:13.44. Not only did that time win the first race of the year, it was a new record for a 5K time by a G-MAC men's cross country runner. Humes finished 12 seconds ahead of every other runner at the race.
