Chargers' Ben Haas wins third G-MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor (Feb. 5-12)

Another week and another excellent showing for sophomore Ben Haas of the Hillsdale College men's track and field team.

Haas was named the G-MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the third time and for the second week in a row, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon, after another week of dominating the competition.

The sophomore won not one but two titles in the weight throw at separate invitationals this weekend, including a victory at the prestigious GVSU Big Meet on Friday. In that event, Haas beat the competition by nearly a full meter with a throw of 21.41 meters. After that victory, Haas came back the next day with a throw of 20.71 meters to win the Tiffin Invitational title as well. In both cases, Haas' performance beat out multiple NCAA DII provisionally qualified throwers to win the title.

It's the latest in a banner year for Haas, who finished third in the weight throw at the 2023 NCAA DII Indoor Championships to earn All-American honors as a freshman. His top mark this season, 21.43 meters, is ranked third in the nation so far.

Haas and the Chargers compete at home this weekend in their annual Tune-Up Invite, Hillsdale's final event before the start of the G-MAC Championships on Feb. 23 and 24, hosted by Ashland. At the G-MAC Championships, Haas will look to defend his G-MAC title in the weight throw that he captured in 2023.
