Chargers turn in solid performance ahead of conference championships at Walsh Tune-Up

In its final meet before the all-important G-MAC Outdoor Championships next week, the Hillsdale College men's track and field team had several performances to be happy about at Thursday's Walsh Tune-Up.

A strong day in the hurdles was a big plus for the Chargers. Junior Sean Fagan brought home Hillsdale's only event title of the meet, winning the 400m hurdles in 53.37, just ahead of freshman and teammate Colsen Conway, who placed runner-up in 55.27.

The two athletes were flip-flopped in the 110 hurdles, with Conway leading the way with a runner-up finish in a personal best time of 15.00, and Fagan crossing the line close behind in fourth place with a time of 15.09.

The Chargers also had three runners place in the 400m dash, led by sophomore Maliq Brock, who took runner-up honors in 50.10. Joseph Ritzer placed fourth for the Chargers in 50.47, and Ian Calvert took seventh in 50.73.

Jacob Schmidt also placed for the Chargers in the 100m dash, taking seventh in 11.09.

In the field, Hillsdale's Alfonso Garcia took third in the triple jump, with a distance of 12.44 meters, and Cass Dobrowolski placed sixth in the high jump with a time of 1.90 meters.

Hillsdale travels to Ashland next for the three day G-MAC Championships, beginning on Wednesday, May 3. The Chargers men will be looking to build off of a surprising third place finish in 2022, despite a tough field that's gotten even more competitive with the addition of Northwood to the conference this year.
