Chargers men’s track and field team, 13 individuals earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

An impressive season on the track was bolstered by an impressive showing in the classroom as well for the Hillsdale College men's track and field team.

The Charger men earned All-Academic team recognition from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon, with a cumulative team GPA exceeding the 3.0 threshold necessary to earn recognition.

That comes in addition to a strong 2021-22 campaign that saw two athletes earn a combined three All-American honors, and the Chargers post their best finish in a conference meet in over two decades at the G-MAC Outdoor Championships in May.

Along with the team recognition, a combined 13 athletes from the Hillsdale men's and women's track and field teams earned individual All-Academic honors, with five men and eight women taking home awards.

In order to qualify for All-Academic honors, an athlete must post a 3.25 cumulative GPA and achieve at least one provisional qualifying mark during the 2021-22 indoor and outdoor seasons.

On the men's side, Sean Fagan, fresh off finishing sixth in the 400m hurdles at the 2022 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships and earning All-American honors, also received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. As well as in the outdoor 400m hurdles, Fagan also earned provisional qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles and 4x400m relay.

In addition, 4x400m relay teammates Jamahl Burke and Benu Meintjes also received All-Academic honors for the second straight year, as did freshmen throwers Kyle MacBeth, who had a provisional mark in the javelin, and Ben Haas, who had a provisional mark in the indoor weight throw.

For the women, two members of Hillsdale's All-American outdoor 4x400m relay team were recognized, as both Shura Ermakov and Dakota Stamm earned All-Academic honors. For Ermakov, who also ran a provisional qualifying time in the 400m hurdles, it's her second-straight year receiving the honor. Stamm also was a provisional qualifier in the 400m dash, both indoors and outdoors.

Also receiving All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA were Hillsdale's distance trio of Gwynne Riley, Margaret Scheske and Liz Wamsley. All three athletes qualified for the 2022 Outdoor Championships – Riley in the 1,500m run, Scheske in the 3,000m steeplechase, and Wamsley in the 10,000m run – while earning provisional qualifying marks in multiple events indoors and outdoors. For Scheske, it's her second-straight season earning the honor.

Three freshmen also received All-Academic honors for the Charger women. Reagan Dahlquist, who set a provisional qualifying mark in the indoor high jump, and Morgan Iverson, who reached provisional qualifying height in the indoor pole vault, each earned the honor, as did freshman Reese Dragovich, who was a provisional qualifier in the indoor 800m run.
