Hillsdale men prep for conference championships at home Tune-Up Meet

With the G-MAC Outdoor Track and Field championship meet less than a week away, the Hillsdale College men's track and field team are making their final adjustments and preparations for one of the most important meets of the season.

On Friday, that meant hitting the Ken Herrick Track at home for a meet against seven other schools, including multiple teams they'll see in Owensboro, Kentucky next week for the conference meet that begins on Thursday, May 5.

While the Chargers only ran a partial squad, with its focus squarely on the meet next week, there were still multiple notable results for the Chargers on Friday.

Leading the way for Hillsdale was senior Ian Brown, who broke his own 110 meter hurdle school record of 14.32 seconds that he'd just set at last week's GINA Relays, winning Friday's event in 14.24. That time is still .03 off of Brown's best time in the event this year, though that mark was wind-aided and ineligible for record consideration.

Along with Brown's win, the Chargers also won the 4x400 relay, with the team of freshmen Sean Fagan, Jamahl Burke, Ian Calvert and Benu Meintjes finishing in 3:21.75, and senior Ryan Thomsen took second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.53 meters.

Sophomore Steve Weideman took third in the hammer throw as well for the Chargers with a personal best mark of 50.72 merters, Joseph Ritzer took third in the 400 meter dash (52.27) and Sean Hoeft finished fourth in the 800 meter run (2:01.42).

The Chargers head to Owensboro next week to compete in the first outdoor G-MAC Championship Meet since 2019, and looking to improve on their fifth-place conference finish from that season.
