Charger men's track and field team gets multiple personal bests at Hilltopper Relays

The Hillsdale College Charger men's track and field team took big strides as they traveled south for Western Kentucky University's Hilltopper Relays this weekend.

Highlighting the sprints group, freshman Sean Fagan improved upon last week's performance in the 400m hurdles with a near-provo time. He finished in 53.42 seconds good enough for third place, just less than a tenth of a second shy of the provo mark. Fagan also raced in the 110m hurdles, taking third in 14.71 seconds.

Racing along with Fagan was senior Ian Brown who won the 110m hurdles in 14.45 seconds. Brown also raced the 200m dash in which he ran a personal best time of 22.25 seconds to place seventh.

Freshmen Dagur Einarsson and Jacob Schmidt battled in the 100m dash. Einarsson finished fourth in 10.88 seconds, and Schmidt came in fifth just two-hundredths later, in 10.90 seconds. Einarsson finished ninth in the 200m dash as well with a time of 22.50.

Coming off an injury from the conference championship meet in February, freshman Benu Meintjes placed sixth in the 400 meter dash. He finished in 50.03 seconds for his first race of the outdoor season.

In the 800 meter run, freshman Ian Calvert put together an excellent race for a new personal best time. He finished fourth in 1:55.03, shaving more than a second off his previous best. Freshman Dylan Palmer raced the 800 as well, placing 11th overall in 2:00.85

In the field, Hillsdale only brought its throws squad of freshmen TJ McGinnis and Ethan Perttula to today's meet. The two place sixth and 13th in discus, respectively, with throws of 40.64 meters and 36.70 meters. McGinnis threw shot put as well, taking fifth with a mark of 14.26 meters.

Rounding out the meet was the 4x400m relay of Fagan, Meintjes, Calvert, and Schmidt. The Charger team came in second overall in 3:24.25.

The Chargers will gear up for the Hillsdale Invitational next on April 10.
