Charger men's track team wins five events at Wide-Track Classic

The Hillsdale College men's track team played host to three opposing schools at Friday's annual Wide-Track Classic in the Biermann Center, and while the circumstances kept the meet from being as large as it has been in years past, the Chargers still put up some solid performances.

Running a partial squad, Hillsdale took home five event victories, including three titles in the field events.

Junior Ben Raffin took first in the pole vault, clearing 4.80 meters to lead the Chargers, sophomore Charlie Andrews took first in the high jump with a clearance of 1.83 meters, and sophomore Joshua Nichols won the triple jump with a distance of 13.30 meters.

On the track, junior Jacob Schmidt beat a solid field to win the 60 meter dash in 7.02 seconds, and Hillsdale also went 1-2 in the 400 meter dash, with sophomore Ian Calvert winning in 50.89 seconds and Joseph Ritzer taking second in 54.26 seconds.

GVSU Snowdown Showdown

The Hillsdale men's track and field team's 4x400 meter relay team ran an excellent race against a tough field at Saturday's GVSU Snowdown Showdown in Allendale, Michigan.

The Charger team of Jamahl Burke, Sean Fagan, Benu Meintjes and Adam Wade took second in a tight race with the host Lakers, setting a new season best time of 3:17.20 and beating several teams from Division I programs in the process.

Hillsdale is currently ranked 10th in Division II in the 4x400 meter relay and inching closer to the provisional qualifying mark of 3:16.27.

The Chargers will return to GVSU on Friday for the two-day GVSU Big Meet for their next action.
