GVSU Big Meet results

The Hillsdale College Chargers were all over the place this weekend, running at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, the Kent State Doug Raymond National Qualifier, and the University of Findlay Alumni Classic. 

On Friday, senior Joey Humes and junior Jack Shelley travelled to GVSU to race the mile. Humes finished fourth in 4:08.26, and Shelly took 46th in 4:20.70. 

At Kent State University on Saturday, three Chargers competed in the 400m dash and 800m run. Freshman Benu Meintjes ran a season-best time of 49.94 in the 400 to take 13th overall. Junior Adam Wade ran just off of his PR time, but still season best, finishing in 50.21 seconds to take 17th. 

And freshman Ian Calvert raced well to take 24th overall in a competitive race with a time of 1:58.71. 

At Findlay, hurdlers Ian Brown and John Baldwin got things started, taking third and fourth, respectively in the 60m hurdles. Brown finished in 8.38 seconds, and Baldwin was just behind in 8.40 seconds.

Sophomore Jacob Schmidt ran a season best in the 60m dash, finishing fourth overall in 7.06 seconds. Senior David Downey raced the 400m dash to take 14th in 54.66. 

In the field events, senior Ryan Thomsen cleared 1.99 meters in high jump and sophomore Steve Weideman finished with a new PR to take 20th in the weight throw with a toss of 15.12 meters. 

The Chargers will return to their home track for the Hillsdale Tune Up next weekend as they prepare for the G-MAC Championship meet the following weekend.
