Chargers Men Compete at Mike Lints Alumni Open

The Hillsdale College Charger men's track team traveled to Allendale, MI, for the Grand Valley State University Mike Lints Alumni meet today. 

Events began on the track with the 60m hurdles. Sophomore John Baldwin won the race with a time of 8.20, followed by senior Ian Brown in third in 8.38 seconds. 

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Joseph Ritzer earned a new personal best time of 52.98 seconds to take 24th out the 47 runners. Senior David Downey took 30th with a time of 54.06 seconds. 

Freshman Ian Calvert led the Chargers' efforts in the 800 meter run with a new PR of 1:59.40 and finished 15th. Fellow freshman Dylan Palmer also earned a new PR and took 24th in the event with a time of 2:01.03, right ahead of freshman Isaac Waffle who took 26th in 2:01.75. 

In the mile, freshman Sean Hoeft earned a new PR of 4:32.95 and finished 35th out of more than 60 runners. 

Sophomore Jacob Schmidt put together a nice 200m dash to take eighth in 22.54 seconds. Brown finished 16th in the event as well with a new PR of 22.93 seconds, which was his first time breaking the 23-second barrier on an indoor track.   

Kicking off his indoor track season, senior Joey Humes placed second in the 3000m run with a time of 8:26.22. Teammate junior Jack Shelley had an amazing kick as he passed several runners to take ninth in 8:38.44, which was a new PR. 

Baldwin, Calvert, Ritzer, and Schmidt put together a nice 4-by-400m relay to take fourth in 3:32.61. 

In the field events, senior Ryan Thomsen finished seventh 4.51 meters in pole vault, and sophomore Steve Weideman took 10th in weight throw with a mark of 14.54 meters.

The Chargers will return home for the Wide Track Classic next weekend as they continue to make adjustments and improvements this season.
