Vaulting his way into the top spot in the NCAA Division II, Charger senior Jared Schipper was rewarded Tuesday afternoon.
Schipper was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office. Schipper is the 32nd different Charger athlete to be named a player of the week by the conference this year.
In Saturday's Hillsdale Invitational, the Chargers' first home outdoor meet of the year, Schipper shattered a G-MAC record by clearing 5.40 meters in the pole vault event. Not only is that mark a new conference record, it puts him number one currently in all of NCAA Division II. Schipper has multiple All-American honors to his credit earlier in his career, though he's never had a performance like this one.
