Ryan Thomsen Named G-MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

In his very first collegiate meet, Ryan Thomsen broke the Hillsdale College men's track school record in the heptathlon before suffering a season-ending injury.

Two years later, Thomsen is back, healthy and still gaining some well-deserved recognition.

Monday night, he was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

Competing in the friendly confines of the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center at last weekend's Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, Thomsen turned in a terrific performance in his signature event that helped the Chargers to a second-place finish at its second home meet of the year.

He scored 4,927 points in the heptathlon, less than 100 points off his school record. Over the weekend, he won the 1,000 meter run and took second in the shot put and high jump portions of the seven-event competition.

Thomsen is the 22nd different Charger athlete to win a G-MAC player of the week honor during the 2018-19 school year.
