Chargers' Cimpeanu takes fourth G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors (March 20-27)

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team played one of its best matches of the season to pick up a crucial conference win on Sunday, and as a result, the Chargers' top singles player is once again receiving G-MAC accolades.

Junior Brennan Cimpeanu is the G-MAC's Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon, the fourth time this season and the ninth time in his three years at Hillsdale.

Cimpeanu was dominant at No. 1 singles against visiting Walsh to record the 51st match win of his career, beating the Cavaliers' Philip Peter Carstensen 6-1, 6-2 to take the victory. He also excelled with partner Brian Hackman at No. 1 doubles, taking a 6-3 victory over Walsh's top team. Both wins helped Hillsdale to a 6-1 victory over Walsh that snapped a three-match losing streak for the Chargers.

Cimpeanu has been a critical player for the Chargers since the first match in his freshman year, earning G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors while helping Hillsdale to a G-MAC team championship in 2020-21. He followed that up in 2021-22 by becoming the first Hillsdale player to win an ITA Midwest Regional title in singles, and playing in the ITA Cup on the way to becoming the first Chargers men's tennis player to be named a NCAA DII All-American.

He's continued his strong play this season, with singles victories in both of his first two G-MAC matches. Hillsdale looks to continue to climb in the G-MAC standings this weekend with a match at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.
