Chargers stay unbeaten in G-MAC with 4-0 road win over Cedarville

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team took care of business on Thursday afternoon, sweeping past host Cedarville to set up a winner-takes-all match in the regular season finale on Sunday.

Strong doubles play was a big factor once again in the Chargers' victory. Hillsdale swept all three doubles matches, with the top pairing of Tyler Conrad and Sean Barstow winning 6-2 over Cedarville's squad and the Chargers' No. 2 pairing of Brennan Cimpeanu and Gabe Katz and No. 3 pairing of Brian Hackman and Daniel Gilbert each picked up 6-3 victories.

With just three wins in singles needed to clinch the match, the middle of Hillsdale's lineup came through. Hackman picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win over Timmy O'Brien of Cedarville at No. 3 singles, and Barstow beat the Yellow Jackets' Nathan Brumbaugh 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles as well.

At No. 5 singles, Gilbert rolled past Phillip Brumbaugh of Cedarville 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Chargers. While he didn't get a chance to finish his match due to Gilbert locking up the victory, Cimpeanu was also ahead at No. 2 singles when play was stoppped.

The Chargers improve to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in G-MAC play with the victory. Hillsdale now has a showdown with fellow G-MAC unbeaten Walsh in the regular season finale on Sunday. The winner will claim the outright regular season crown and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament next week.
