Charger men's tennis team sweeps past Findlay for big G-MAC win

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team earned its second conference win and dealt another G-MAC title contender a loss in a critical 4-0 road win over Findlay on Saturday.

The Chargers got the day off to a great start by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Conrad and Sean Barstow won 6-2, its No. 2 doubles team of Brennan Cimpeanu and Gabe Katz didn't drop a game in a 6-0 victory, and its No. 3 doubles team of Daniel Gilbert and Brian Hackman pulled out a 6-4 victory.

In singles play, Hillsdale quickly took three victories to clinch the match and end play early with the threat of rain looming. Conrad had a big day at No. 1 singles, beating Jorge Barnuevo 6-2, 6-4 to earn a point for the Chargers. Barstow also picked up a critical win at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Andrew Codita, and Katz won at No. 6 singles to seal the victory, 6-1, 6-0, over Mark Ivanov.

At No. 2 singles Cimpeanu was tied with Florian Bauer 6-3, 3-6, entering the third set, Hackman was narrowly trailing Alfredo Berlanga at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 1-2, and Gilbert was up 6-1, 1-2 over Octavio Carrasco at No. 5 singles as well.

Hillsdale (10-2, 2-0 G-MAC) has another huge match tomorrow, Sunday, at home against Tiffin beginning at noon. A victory would make it a virtual two-team race between the Chargers and Walsh for the regular season title and top seed in the G-MAC tournament, with Hillsdale and the Cavaliers scheduled to meet on April 18.
