Charger men's tennis team rebounds with 6-1 win over Southern Indiana

In its first match after taking its first loss of the season, the Hillsdale College men's tennis team bounced back in a big way on Sunday.

The Chargers beat Southern Indiana 6-1 for a Midwest Regional win behind several strong performances in a home match to improve to 6-1 overall on the season.

Sophomore No. 1 singles player Tyler Conrad led the way with an impressive day, teaming with freshman Sean Barstow in a 6-1 win over Southern Indiana at No. 1 doubles, and beating the Screaming Eagles' Yahor Bahdanovich 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles as well to go undefeated on the day.

Barstow also made short work of his opponent at No. 4 singles, beating USI's Marvin Kromer 6-2, 6-1, and freshman Brennan Cimpeanu ran his match winning streak to seven with two wins on the day, teaming with senior Gabe Katz to win 6-4 at No. 2 doubles and secure the doubles point, and beating the Eagles' Parker Collignon 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Katz went 2-0 as well with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win over USI's Spencer Blandford at No. 6 singles for the Chargers, and junior Brian Hackman bounced back from a loss at No. 3 doubles with a tight 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 victory at No. 3 singles over USI's Preston Cameron.

With G-MAC play fast approaching, the Chargers look to stay on a roll this next weekend as they host GLIAC foe Michigan Tech at noon on Saturday, March 13. Having already picked up four wins against GLIAC teams, Hillsdale is hoping to take down the Huskies for another important regional win that could pay dividends when the NCAA Tournament field is selected at the end of the year.
