Freshman Tyler Conrad Earns First G-MAC Player of the Week Honor

It didn't take Tyler Conrad long to make an impact on the Hillsdale College men's tennis program.

The freshman from Midland, Michigan won the B main draw singles bracket at the ITA Regionals over the weekend in Grand Rapids. As a result, he was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The award was chosen and announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

In the B main draw finals, he put together an impressive comeback in picking up a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Karl Heinrichs from Missouri-St. Louis. The victory capped a 6-0 run by Conrad through the bracket. He started the tournament with a three-set win (3-6, 6-2, 10-4) over second-seeded Lukas Stierling from Drury.

In doubles competition, he teamed up with sophomore Brian Hackman to advance to the men's doubles B draw semifinals. They won their first two matches over teams from Purdue Northwest and Maryville to get to the semis.

Conrad is the seventh different Hillsdale College athlete to be named a G-MAC player of the week through the first full month of the 2019-20 school year.
