Monaghan posts top 15 finish as Chargers take 12th at Music City Invite

Hillsdale College senior Darragh Monaghan played one of his best invitationals of the spring to date as the Chargers golf team placed 12th as a team at the Music City Invitational on Tuesday.

Monaghan rode eight birdies to a one-over 145 in the 36 hole invitational, shooting 72-73 for the two rounds to finish tied for 12th on a packed leaderboard in the two day event at the Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville, Tennessee. The senior was once again especially good on the Par 3s, tying for fourth-best among all players in the invitational in playing those holes at even par in the two rounds.

As a whole team, Hillsdale struggled to get a grip on the course, sitting in 10th after an opening-round 299 on Monday, and dropping to 12th overall after shooting a 304 in the final round on Tuesday.

Sophomore Filippo Reale and senior Drew Gandy each finished tied for 47th with a 153 for the Chargers, as both players posted identical scores of 74-79 for their two rounds.

Senior Gerry Jones, Jr. shot a 79-75=154 to finish a stroke back, in 55th place, and freshman Max Burns carded a 79-77=156 to finish 57th overall.

Hillsdale has just one more tune-up before the G-MAC Championships begin on April 24, traveling to the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana on Monday, April 10 to play in the two day Ken Partridge Invitational, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
