GCAA All-American Scholar Press Release

After a stellar year on the golf course, the Hillsdale College men's golf team proved earlier this week that they could hang with the elite at the NCAA Division II level in the classroom as well.

The Chargers were recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America as a 2020-21 Outstanding Team Academic Award Recipient, in honor of a strong academic performance across the board in the past school year.

In order to receive Team Academic recognition from the GCAA, a team must carry a 3.0 or better average GPA across all members of its squad for the 2020-21 school year, a mark the Chargers easily surpassed this past season.

In addition to team honors, one of Hillsdale's top golfers also received a notable individual honor as well for the second straight year.

Rising junior Josh Davenport was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf 2020-21 NCAA DII All-American Scholar by the GCAA, after also receiving the prestigious award in 2019-20. He's just the second Hillsdale College golfer to receive the honor since the program was restarted in 2013-14, joining Joe Torres (2017), and the first to receive the honor multiple times.

In order to be an All-American Scholar, a golfer must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, participate in at least 40 percent of his team's competitive rounds, and maintain a stroke average of under 78.0 and a GPA of over 3.2 for the 2020-21 school year.

Davenport played in 28 competitive rounds for the Chargers in 2020-21, posting a 74.56 stroke average and recording one top 10 finish in the Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Club on Oct. 12-13, 2020. One of Hillsdale's top players for multiple seasons, Davenport has three top 10 finishes in his career, two top five finishes and a medalist honor in the 2019 Midwest Regional.

With Davenport returning, as well as top-five regulars Gerry Jones Jr. and Will Verduzco, Hillsdale looks to build off a runner-up finish in the G-MAC and an NCAA Midwest/Central Regional berth in the upcoming 2021-22 season with three of its top five players from last year returning.
