Hillsdale’s Ryan Zetwick named to GCAA 2021 NCAA DII Ping All-Region team

Ryan Zetwick made history for the Hillsdale College men's golf team this spring, earning the program's first top-10 finish at a NCAA Division II regional event since the team returned to varsity status in the fall of 2013.

Now, he's become the Charger golf team's first All-Region honoree in the eight seasons since the program was restarted, as well.

Zetwick was one of 13 golfers from the Midwest Region named to the 2021 NCAA Division II Ping All-Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America last Friday, a special honor to cap a special season.

The senior had his best season in 2020-21 to close out a strong career at Hillsdale College, recording three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes in 10 events for the Chargers, and posting a stroke average of 73.08.

Zetwick finished the season on a tear, carding a 69-74-71-214 at the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional on May 6 at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri to finish tied for 10th, the best performance by a Charger golfer in an NCAA event in the last two decades.

That finish came on the heels of an excellent performance in the G-MAC Championships on April 20. The senior from Castle Rock, Colorado closed the conference championship event with a 5-under 67 to secure a third-place individual finish in the conference and help the Chargers take runner-up honors as a team – the program's best finish in a spring conference championship since it was restarted in 2013.

That finish was one of three top five finishes individually in 2020-21 for Zetwick, who also took fourth at the SVSU Spring Invite in March and fifth at the Music City Invitational in October 2020. He played 16 of his 25 rounds this season at par or better and was a significant contributor to the best season the Charger golf program has had since it was brought back.

The Chargers finished in the top five as a team in six of 10 events in the 2020-21 season, with five top three finishes and three runner-up finishes, including taking second place in the G-MAC on April 20. Hillsdale recorded an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Regional as a team, their best performance in an NCAA event in at least the last two decades.
